The Raindrop Technique® is a unique practice based on methods that have been used for centuries to rejuvenate the body and mind. The Raindrop Technique helps bring balance and harmony to the body by combining targeted massage and distinctive energy approaches. It also includes pure, therapeutic-grade essential oils to create an atmosphere of spirituality and serenity.
The traditional complete Raindrop technique is applied to the back – from the tailbone to the base of the skull – and to the feet .
Raindrop derives its name from the practice of dispensing the oils from the bottle like little drops of rain from a height of about six inches above the body. This allows the oils to harmonize with the energy field of the recipient. Although performed in a similar sequence, each session will be different with each person due to his or her unique energy field and life experience. Once dropped onto the skin, each oil is spread along the spine and massaged along the vertebral column. Although the entire process takes about 45 minutes to complete, the effects may be felt for up to 5 to 7 days. Raindrop Technique is only one tool to help restore balance in the body and promote good health. Healthful eating habits help prepare the body and skin to accept the oils.
Raindrop Technique originated in the 1980s from the research of Dr. Gary Young working with a Lakota medicine man named Wallace Black Elk. Over the years Gary Young has tweaked the Raindrop protocol. You will find bountiful references and instructions on how to perform a Raindrop session on the internet and social media. You will find different sequences for applying the oils when you refer to instructional materials that were appropriate at the time they were printed. A slight change in the oil sequence was introduced by Gary in 2010.
Essential oils are known to boost stamina and energy, help you relax and promote overall health and vitality. The essential oils provided in the Raindrop collection include (in order of their suggested application):
- Valor II™ blend to start
- Oregano (Origanum compactum)
- Thyme (Thymus vulgaris)
- Basil (Ocimum basilicum)
- Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens)
- Wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens)
- Marjoram (Origanum majorana)
- Aroma Siez™ blend
- Ortho Ease®, a vegetable based massage oil enhanced with essential oils
- Peppermint (Mentha piperita)
- Valor II™ blend to end
A bottle of V6™ vegetable oil blend is also included in the kit. It is used to dilute any essential oil that may cause irritation to the skin.
As with most “recipes”, people have made slight modifications to the choice of oils used in a session based upon the needs of the person receiving the session. Once one becomes more familiar with the properties of different essential oils or obtains a book providing guidance for their use, you may choose to incorporate essential oils other than the ones provided in the kit. It has been suggested that, after Valor II one should always follow with Oregano and Thyme due to their powerful chemical makeup. After that you are only limited by your imagination. There are essential oils and oil blends that are appropriate and supportive for any situation you choose to address.
The health benefits reported by recipients of Raindrop sessions are varied and often unique to the individual. That is the nature of nature. It addresses what it finds the person needs in the moment and not necessarily follow the agenda we have intended. The response to each session can be quite different for the same person. For those who like predictability and consistency there may be a sense of surprise to the variability of the responses.
How often should you receive a session?
Depending upon your health history and current health status, receiving a session on a monthly, weekly or semi-weekly basis may be appropriate. It is suggested that one allow at least a day or two between sessions to allow the effects of the session to integrate.
