Raindrop® Technique

Raindrop Technique originated in the 1980s from the research of Dr. Gary Young working with a Lakota medicine man named Wallace Black Elk. It integrates reflexology, massage and the power of essential oils in bringing the body into structural and electrical alignment.  A Raindrop session, using the oils provided in the original collection, provides a cleansing at the cellular level.  The molecular composition of the oils have the effect of clearing receptor sites on cell membranes and facilitating the release of stored toxins from the cells and tissues.  Raindrop sessions are part of a comprehensive cleansing of the body when combined with nutritional cleansing of the digestive tract.  As such, including Raindrop in your natural healing practices to regain and maintain your optimal health is recommended highly.

Raindrop Technique uses a sequence of essential oils that are immune enhancing, support the body's natural defenses, as well as the circulatory, respiratory, endocrine, digestive, nervous, and other body systems. These oils, which are high in antioxidants, are also mood elevating and antiseptic, creating an unfavorable environment for harmful viruses and bacteria that can hibernate in the body.

Depending upon your health history and current health status, receiving a session on a monthly, weekly or semi-weekly basis may be appropriate.  It is suggested that one allow at least a day or two between sessions to allow the effects of the session to integrate.

Over the years Gary Young has tweaked the Raindrop protocol.  You will find different sequences for applying the oils when you refer to instructional materials that were appropriate at the time they were printed.  A slight change in the oil sequence was introduced by Gary in 2010.

As with most “recipes”, people have made slight modifications to the oils used in a session based upon the needs of the person receiving the session.  The original oils were chosen for their purifying and cleansing properties.  There were many reports of skeletal realignment, spinal lengthening, and emotional/spiritual cleansing.  The health benefits reported by recipients of Raindrop sessions are varied and often unique to the individual.  That is the nature of nature.  It addresses what it finds the person needs in t he moment and not necessarily does it follow the agenda we have for their effect.  The response to each session can be quite different for each person.  For those who like predictability and consistency there may be a sense of frustration due to the variability of the responses.

Once one becomes more familiar with the properties of different essential oils or obtains a book providing guidance for their use, you may choose to incorporate essential oils other than the ones provided in the kit.  It has been suggested that one should always start with Oregano and Thyme due to their powerful cleansing and purifying properties.  After that, you are only limited by your imagination.  Dealing with respiratory issues?  Use eucalyptus, myrtle, hyssop, RC, Raven or others.  Digestive issues?  Hormonal issues?  Immunity?  There are essential oils and oil blends that are appropriate for any situation you choose to address.

Essential oils are known to boost stamina and energy, help you relax, help manage stress and frustration and promote overall health, vitality, and longevity. The essential  oils provided in the Raindrop collection include (in order of their application):

  • Valor blend to start
  • Oregano (Origanum compactum)
  • Thyme (Thymus vulgaris)
  • Basil (Ocimum basilicum)
  • Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens)
  • Wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens)
  • Marjoram (Origanum majorana)
  • Aroma Siez blend
  • Ortho Ease, a vegetable based massage oil enhanced with essential oils
  • Peppermint (Mentha piperita)
  • Valor blend to end

A bottle of V6 vegetable oil is also included in the kit.  It is used to dilute any essential oil that causes irritation to the skin.

The actual Raindrop technique is applied to the feet and the back - from the tailbone to the base of the skull.

Raindrop derives its name from the practice of dispensing the oils from the bottle like little drops of rain from a height of about six inches above the back.  This allows the oils to harmonize with the energy field of the recipient.  Although performed in a similar sequence, each session will be different with each person due to his or her unique energy field and experience.  Once dropped onto the skin, each oil is spread along the spine and massaged along the vertebral column.  Although the entire process takes about 45 minutes to complete, the oils will continue to work in the body for up to 5 to 7 days following treatment. Raindrop Technique is only one tool to help restore balance in the body and promote good health. Healthful eating habits help prepare the body and skin to accept the oils better and more rapidly.
